When a kiln charge reaches the Drying status in the Traece™ Field App, it is actively undergoing the drying process. At this stage, there are fewer modifications you can make to the charge, but you can monitor the drying progress and take moisture readings to ensure the lumber is dried according to the proper standards.
Here’s what you can do when a kiln charge is in Drying status.
Actions Available for a Drying Kiln Charge
Edit Stop Date:
You can edit the Stop Date by clicking on the date field, selecting the desired date, and clicking Apply.
The Start Date is automatically recorded when the charge status is changed to Drying.
Note: You cannot add, remove, load, or unload any material once the kiln charge is in Drying status.
Material Status:
All materials in the drying phase will have a status of Kiln Drying, and their location will be updated to In Kiln.
View Material:
Click on the Species - Inventory Number to view detailed information about the material.
Add a Description:
You can add a description for the kiln charge to provide context or details about the process.
Note: If you edit the date or update the description, you will need to click on Save Updates to apply the changes.
View Kiln Charge History:
Click on the accordion to expand and view the Kiln Charge History, which will display a detailed log of actions taken during the charge.
Take Moisture Readings
During the drying phase, you can monitor the moisture content of the materials by taking moisture readings:
Click on the clipboard icon to record a new moisture reading.
Enter the measurement information in the Take Measurement modal and click Add New Measurement.
Note: Once a reading has been recorded, you can take additional moisture readings at any time. To view past readings, click Measurements to see all the readings taken for the charge.
Proceeding to Stopped Drying
To stop the drying process and move to the Stopped status, click on Stop Drying, then click on Change Status to update the kiln charge to Stopped.
By managing your kiln charge in Drying status, you can closely monitor the moisture content of your materials and ensure that the drying process is progressing as expected. Once the drying is complete, you can easily transition to the next stage of the kiln workflow.
