Creating and managing packs of dimensional lumber is now easier than ever with Traece™. The platform allows you to create new industrial packs using three unique starting points, ensuring you can tailor the process to meet your specific inventory needs. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you add an industrial pack to your Traece™ system.

Add an Industrial Pack

To begin, follow these steps:

  1. From your left-hand navigation menu in Traece™, click on Industrial Packs

  2. On the Industrial Packs page, click on Add Pack

  3. In the Add Packs modal, select a starting point:

    • Create From Logs: Choose this if you want to select source logs to create your pack, linking them (and possibly their source trees) to the pack.

    • Create From Source Trees: Select this if you want to search for source trees and link them directly to the pack.

    • Start Fresh: Opt for this to create a new pack without any log or source tree associations.

Note: If you select "Create From Logs" or "Create From Source Trees," you must choose the log or source tree before proceeding to the next step.

Pack Details tab

Enter Whole Material Information

Next, provide details about the pack to ensure it is accurately represented in the system:

  • Date Milled: This field defaults to today’s date but can be manually adjusted to reflect when the pack was milled.

  • Inventory Number: Traece™ will automatically generate an inventory number, but you can override this with your custom numbering system.

  • Characters: Add any unique characteristics of the pack that may affect its value. These can include features like knots, color variation, or grain patterns, and they apply a percentage multiplier to the base price.

  • Source Type: Specify the source type of the tree.

  • Species: Select the tree species from a dropdown list, or add a new one if needed.

  • Tags: Optionally, add tags to help categorize and identify the pack easily.

  • Barcode: If a barcode is assigned, it can be used for quick searching and locating of the pack information.

Provide Pack Sizing Information

Enter the dimensions and specifications of the pack:

  • Thickness: Select or add the thickness of the lumber.

  • Number of Rows: Enter the number of rows in the pack.

  • Pack Width (inches): Input the width of the pack; this value, combined with the average board length, thickness, and number of rows, will calculate the Pack Board Foot Estimate.

  • Average Board Length (inches): Provide the average board length in the pack for accurate volume calculations.

  • Average Board Width (inches): Enter the average width of the boards to complete the estimate.

  • Minimum Board Width and Length (inches): Input the minimum dimensions to help buyers understand the range of sizes in the pack.

  • Grading: Choose the grade for the dimensional lumber, considering the type of wood (softwood or hardwood).

  • Estimated Individual Items: Traece™ automatically calculates this based on your input dimensions.

  • Total Available Board Feet: This is calculated automatically, but custom values can be entered if needed, and the Estimated Individual Items will update automatically.

  • Sanded: If this Pack unit is sanded, select this box. Doing so will update the Pack’s price accordingly, based off the sanding price established under Settings > Setting > Pricing

  • Surfaced: If this Pack unit is surfaced, select this box. Doing so will update the Pack’s price accordingly, based off the surfaced price established under Settings > Setting > Pricing

  • Click Set Optional Info

Optional Information tab

Add any additional details under the Optional Info tab:

  • Location: Specify where the pack is stored within your facility. Locations can be customized in Traece™ under Settings > Operations > Locations.

  • Contact: Assign the pack to a specific person, company, or job.

  • Status: Select a status for the new pack; these can also be customized in Traece™ under Settings > Operations > Statuses.

Enter Pricing Information

Determine the monetary value of the pack by filling in the pricing details:

  • Pack Acquisition Cost (per board foot): Enter the acquisition cost to track expenses.

  • Total Pack Acquisition Cost: This field will be calculated automatically based on the acquisition cost.

  • Price: The price is calculated using the Pack Board Foot formula, species, and thickness. You can manually override this price if needed.

  • Discounts: Apply one or more discounts as needed.

  • Round BF Price for Calculation: Check this box if you prefer rounding the price to whole numbers.

Upload Documents and Add Descriptions

Attach any relevant files and details:

  • Upload an Image, Video, or PDF: Add media to showcase the pack. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, mp4, and PDF.

  • Description: Provide details about the pack’s history, sourcing, or other relevant information. This description will be visible on your eCommerce platform when the pack is listed for sale.

Save Your Pack

Once all information is entered:

  • Click Save to finalize the pack.

  • Click Save and Duplicate to create a similar pack with slight variations.

Following these steps, you can efficiently add and manage your industrial packs in Traece™, optimizing your inventory management and enhancing your sales potential.
